2013 is turning out to be a bumper year for CHP’s resident writer, Makhosazana (Khosi) Xaba, who launched her first fiction bookRunning and Other Stories(published by Modjadji Books) at the Open Book Festival held in Cape Town from 7 – 11 September.
In this collection of short stories“written with the generosity of a novelist and the precision of a poet”,Xaba“takes tradition – be that literary tradition, cultural tradition, gender tradition – and re-imagines it in a way that is liberating and innovative.”
Two other 2013 books areQueer Africa: New and Collected Fiction(published by MaThoko’s Books), a collection of short stories from Africa which she co-edited with Karen Martin and launched at the Wits Writing Centre in August , andReflections: An Anthology of New Work by African Women Poets(publishedby Lynne Rienner) which features no less than three of her poems. She also wrote the Foreword forMarikana – A Moment in Timewhich was published in March by Geko Publishing and launched at the Constitution Hill. She has written numerous children’s books and her poetry has been published in many anthologies within South Africa and internationally in China, Italy, Turkey and the USA.
