Experiences of Ward-based Outreach Teams
12 June 2015
Johannesburg- The Centre for Health Policy hosted a meeting for stakeholders involved in the implementation of Ward-based Outreach Teams (WBOT) in Gauteng to discuss their experiences of implementing this model which aims to strengthen delivery of primary health care. Nearly 60 health sector delegates from the five districts (Sedibeng, Tshwane, City of Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and West Rand) came together to discuss their challenges and successes in a supportive, open environment.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for developing and strengthening networks and sharing information across the districts. Delegates grouped themselves according to their roles, such as outreach team leaders, district coordinators, sub-district and district managers and gave feedback to the broader group on the challenges of implementing WBOT, as well as how they were addressing these.
CHP offered to convene another workshop in several months’ time as an opportunity to share further experiences and continue this collaborative endeavour.
